New Enrolments

When can I enrol my child(ren)?Red Hill School accepts enrolments throughout the school year.

What are the term dates for the next two years?

  2009 2010
Term 1 30 Jan - 9 Apr 28 Jan - 9 Apr
Term 2 28 Apr - 3 July 27 Apr - 2 July
Term 3 20 July - 25 Sep 19 July - 24 Sep
Term 4 12 Oct - 18 Dec 11 Oct - 17 Dec

Do I need to live in the Red Hill area to enrol at the school?
Priority is given to students who live in our Priority Enrolment Area which covers the suburbs of Red Hill, Griffith, Kingston and Narrabundah (see small map). If you live outside the Priority Enrolment Area, enrolment is subject to the availability of places in your child(ren)'s year level. However, we do maintain a waiting list.

As required by the department, children from NSW are enrolled after ACT children have been placed.

How do I know which class to enrol my child(ren) in?
This decision will be made in consultation with the Principal or Deputy Principal. Generally speaking, a child must have turned 5 years of age by 30 April in the year of enrolment in Kindergarten. Primary schooling in Canberra comprises seven years-Kindergarten through to Year 6. Your child(ren)'s placement will depend on her/his learning needs and the number of formal years of schooling already completed. We are happy to discuss this with you.

What should I do if I am interested in enrolling my child(ren) at Red Hill School?
1. Contact Chris Hamilton (Principal) or Kate McMahon (Deputy Principal) by phone, fax or e-mail. You will be asked to provide some details about your child(ren) such as date of birth, current school and year level, address, contact numbers and so on.

2. Make an appointment with Kate or Chris so that you can visit the school with your child(ren) to discuss placement, curriculum, have your questions answered, and to have a tour of the school.

3. Either at the time of appointment or through the post, you will receive an enrolment form and school information pack.

4. If you are enrolling from outside the ACT Government school system, you will need to provide:

  • proof of date of birth
  • record of immunisation
  • proof of residential address

Is there any extra information I should know if I am planning to enrol my child(ren) for the beginning of the NEXT school year?

1. Make contact with the school as soon as possible. You are welcome to make an appointment to visit the school. You will be provided with an enrolment form and are asked to return the completed form to the school, at your earliest convenience.

2. In term 3 parents of Kindergarten children will receive a letter outlining Orientation Sessions (two or three) and Parent/Carer meetings. These sessions and meetings are usually held in late October, early November.

We hope we have provided you with useful and relevant information about enrolling at Red Hill School. Please do not hesitate to contact Kate or Chris if you would like more information or clarification of any issues.

We look forward to welcoming you and your family to Red Hill School.
